Abstract
240,379. M³ller, A. H. April 3, 1925. Sluice-gates; lock gates; movable weirs.-Hinged sluice-gates, lock-gates or weirs are provided with a fluid brake adapted in combination with an hydraulic accummulator to absorb the work done bv the water of the river or canal in opening the gate. The gate is preferably connected to the hydraulic cylinders forming the brake by toggle levers. The gates a, a, Fig. 1, which may be provided with buoyancy chambers, are hinged at the lower edges c. Links h are pivoted to the upper corners of the gates and to the long arms h<1> of bell-crank levers forming toggle mechanism and the short arms l of the bell-crank levers are connected through links n and piston rods m' to pistons working in hydraulic cylinders A, C, mounted on the walls of the w-ater-tvay. Pipes o, p, Fig. 2, lead from the ends of the cylinders A, B, and may be connected by a valve q to allow free circulation of the liquid and so permit the gate to be opened by the pressure of the water above the gate. By means of a four-way cock r, the accummulator E may be connected to the pipes o or p, in which case the liquid will compress the air in the vessel s or will be passed into the pipes p or o of the other gate to operate the latter. A pressure pump, or a cylinder of liquid air or of gas under high pressure may be provided to increase the available energy. A basin v, Fig. 1. separated from the lock chamber by a perforated wall T, may be provided to steady the flow of water into the lock chamber.
