240,348. Crosse & Blackwell, Ltd., Stokes, A. F., and Bewley, W. J. Jan. 26, 1925. Capsules, applying.-In a bottle &c. closing machine provided with a closing roller which adapts itself to the irregularities of the rim of the bottle operated on, the roller comprises an inner sleeve F rotatably mounted on a fixed spindle D provided at its lower end with a flange D<1> on which the sleeve rests, the sleeve having threaded on its upper end a flanged collar J against which an outer flanged member G is pressed by a spring H acting between it and a flange F<1> on the sleeve F. An inclined surface J<1> on the flanged collar J engages a corresponding surface B' on the bottle-chuck B so that movement of the spindle D towards the chuck causes the collar to ride up the chuck and draw the flange G<1> of the member G obliquely upwards against the depending rim of the metal cap which is being applied to the bottle.
