Abstract

239,582. Salt & Son, Ltd., and Griffiths, R. C. June 6, 1924. Discharge - collecting appliances. - An appliance for use after colotomy comprises an oval frame or carrier a of rubber, celluloid, metal, &c., detachably mounted in a canvas or other belt b, and through which the fµces pass directly in:o a rubber or like bag or receptacle d. Outwardly bowed transverse bars on the frame a keep the upper part of the bag d away from the frame. The bag is formed with a non-tearable elastic edge which is stretched over the flange c of the frame a so that the bag may be detachable without disturbing the belt and frame and may be turned inside out for cleaning. The frame is rounded at the surface in contact with the body and may be formed with a wide inner flange a<1> which protects the belt and may be secured thereto by buttons &c. In a modification the frame is formed without integral transverse bars e, but may be fitted with a detachable member, e<2>, Fig. 6, having transverse bars e<1>, or may be used without bars. Ventilation apertures may be formed in a reinforced upper part of the bag d or in the frame a.
