Pedal-crank driving-mechanism for apparatus other than vehicles; hand driving-mechanism.- In a machine for cracking nuts and the like and comprising a disc into which the nuts are fed and from which they are thrown, the disc is driven by multiple gearing operated continuously by pedals or the like, and consisting of a shaft b fitted with pedals d and a sprocket wheel e or the like, a shaft f fitted with a sprocket wheel g or the like, a chain h passed round the wheels e, g, and spur gearing j, k between the shaft g and the shaft i of the disc l. A free-wheel device is preferably interposed between the wheel g and its shaft f. The wheels e, j are larger than the wheels g, k respectively. Belt, rope, or other suitable gearing may be used instead of sprocket gearing. Handles may be substituted for the pedals.
