Abstract

238,398. Jackson, G. H., and Sommer, A. H. Sept. 26, 1924. Couplings for tractors. - The chassis 1 of a tractor is formed with inclines 3 for engagement with rollers 13 carried by the frame 15 of a trailer. When the tractor is backed on to the trailer the rollers mount the inclines and a spindle 12 on which the rollers are carried is retained by a spring catch 6, 7, pivoted at 8. At the same time the trailer is raised slightly and a spindle 21 drops in arcuate slots 22. This action frees the axle 18 of the ground wheels 17 from engagement with side supports 15a. During the backing motion abutments 24 contact with rollers 23 on arms 20a integral with arms 20 carrying the wheels 17 and raise the wheels from the ground. Disconnection is effected by raising the end a of the levers 7.
