Abstract

Induction m o t o r meters.-In order to compensate for the increased braking effect, the magnetic flux of the series magnet is deflected towards the periphery of the driving-disc at high loads so as to increase the torque. The polepieces 9, 10, Fig. 2, of the series magnet 8 are formed with projections 9<1>, 10<1> of reduced crosssection so as to become saturated at a certain load. Two soft - iron pieces provided with similar projections 11<1>, 12<1> are placed near the poles 9, 10 and further from the axis 2 of the disc 1. As the projections 9<1>, 10<1> become saturated, a greater proportion of the lines of force passes from the pole-pieces 9,10 to the projections 11<1>, 12<1>, thereby causing the magnetic field to act on the disc 1 at a greater radius. The shunt magnet 5 has a core formed of stampings of the shape shown in Fig. 1, without joints, the part 4<11> being temporarily bent aside to allow the coil 3 to be slipped on.
