Abstract

236,205. Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., (Assignees of Hoffman, L. F.). June 24, 1924, [Convention date]. Regulating or controlling.-A fluid compressor B is driven by an internal combustion engine with a normally open throttle valve in the fuel intake, which is moved towards its closed position by fluid pressure means when the compressor is unloaded. This is accomplished by a pilot valve C' connected to receiver pressure by the pipe c, and discharging pressure fluid, when the receiver pressure reaches a predetermined value, through a pipe c<1> to actuate the unloading valve D, and through a branch pipe c<2> to the actuating device for the throttle. The valve 7 is supported on a pivot 8 in a cylindrical casing 4 secured between the carburetter and the intake manifold. A coiled spring 9 tends to hold the valve open, and the spindle 8 carries an arm 12 engaged by a projection on the piston 16 operated by the pressure fluid from the pipe c<2>. An adjustable pin 18 limits the movement of the valve. In the working of the device the pressure fluid which operates the piston 16, and valve 8 is relieved by the valves when the required pressure is below the predetermined value and the parts 16, 8 are restored to their normal positions.
