Abstract
A compound for the protection of the skin from dirt, oil, grease, &c. comprises a mixture of from 10 to 20 per cent of Bentonite or other hydrous aluminium silicate, 2 to 12 per cent of mild soap, and 75 to 85 per cent of water. The preferred proportions are 17 per cent Bentonite, 4 1/2 per cent soap and 78 1/2 per cent water, and the compound is prepared by making separate mixtures of 21 per cent Bentonite and 79 per cent water and approximately 23 per cent ivory soap flakes and 77 per cent hot water. The mixtures are thoroughly stirred and allowed to stand for twenty-four hours, and then mixed in the proportions of approximately 81 per cent of the Bentonite paste and 19 per cent of the soap paste. A small quantity of a perfume such as oil of peppermint or sassafras is added. Up to 20 per cent by weight of a jelly composed of 2 per cent of Tragacanth in 98 per cent of water may be added when the compound is to be subject to severe wear from friction with tools &c.
