Abstract

235,960. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Zweigbergk, T. March 27, 1924. Magnetic blow-outs comprise two coils 1, 2 mounted on the same core 7, the coil 2 being in series with the contacts 12 of the circuitbreaker when the latter is closed, and the coil 1 being connected at one end to the coil 2 and at the other end to a body such as a metallic shield 5, so that it is only energized when the circuit - breaker opens and a spark is formed between the auxiliary contact 16 and the shield 5. The current then passes through both coils in series, or, according to a modification, in parallel, producing a strong blow-out field between pole-pieces S which blows the arc around 'the shield. A second spark which may form between the shield 5 and the fixed contact 13 is blown out along an arc-shoot 15.
