Abstract

Oil, retaining; dust, excluding; pedestals.-A< >bearing for carrier, pressure and' like rolls comprises two rows of conical rollers d, e, spaced apart by a dumb-bell shaped casing h and mounted on a thimble-like part b removably secured to the roll shaft end a. The casing h which is supplied with lubricant under pressure has labyrinth packing devices at the ends and is supported in a self-aligning manner in a pedestal o with an open top. Endwise play is allowed between the pedestal o and casing h at one end of the roll to permit expansion thereof. The screwed collar i securing the inner race rings in position is locked to the thimble b by a spring ring j. The roll shaft a may have a throw-off ring adjacent the bearing.
