Casting procosses. - The links of a travelling grate consist of a web portion a consisting of a steel or like plate or bar with holes b therein to which the upper portion c of refractory metal is cast and keyed through the holes b. The web a is placed in a sand mould or chill and molten iron is run into the mould on the web. The bosses e for the link rods mav be cast in the apertures d or may be stamped in forming the web a or consist of separate collars. The cast portion of the link may be provided with inclined or vertical grooves to provide air passages between adjacent links.
