Vacuum closures; cap stoppers, bayonei-joint; detachable stoppers serured by clamping devices.-The cap or cover A, Figs. 1 and 2, of a jar, bottle &c. is held securely, but not positively, on the jar &c., by a flexible wire D, or its equivalent, attached to the skirt B of the cap as by hooks C depending therefrom, parts of the wire, when the cap is pressed downwardly on to the jar, engaging with the inwardly and downwardly inclined underside of the bead F thereof to compress a packing ring G and to draw the cap down on to the jar. In modifications alternate sections of the wire either follow the outline of the cover or are dispensed with altogether. In a further modification, the wire D<3>, Fig. 16 is enclosed in a channel B<2> formed in the bottom of the skirt of the cap and engages the underside of a douple coned rim F' on a bottle H<2>. The centre of the cover A may be removed and a separate plate, held down by the remaining ring, take its place. The removal of the cover may be facilitated by the provision of a loop or ring attached to the wire or other part of it. In another form projections P, Fig. 15, replace the bead of the jar and the cap is turned to bring the wire D' into engagement with them, a stop R on the cover limiting such rotation.
