Abstract

235,317. Heal, A., and Thoday, L. March 14,1924. Spring surfaces.-A metal mattress or like frame is constructed of upper and lower sets of tubular side and end members spaced by vertical struts and having a supporting surface secured to each of the sets. The mattress is double-sided, reversible and invertible, with surfaces formed of cable or cord, preferably of zebra cord, as described in Specification 27272/09, connected by clips to double helical springs in the manner set forth in Specification 210,587. The surfaces are preferably of different resiliency, and the end tubes, on the side with the softer surface, may lie above the level of the side tubes. Corner fittings 24 - - 27 with double-ended dovetail projections 35, 36 engage corresponding sockets in blocks 42 on the bed-posts when either side of the mattress is uppermost. Alternatively, the mattress may have reversible socket fittings to engage projections on the bed-posts. The ends of the cords 9 are stiffened by cores 48, 49 bent as shown in Fig. 4, or coiled into a helix, and inserted in holes in the tubes to secure them in place.
