Abstract
228,253. Heal, H. Oct. 30, 1923. Spring surfaces. - Helical springs with their upper coils linked or otherwise connected to each other and to the mattress or seat frame, have their lower ends mounted on a flexible support which is hung by springs from the main frame. As shown, the flexible support consists of a wire mesh 13 with the lower ends of the springs 11 secured to it at the crossing points. Alternatively, wooden or metal laths or strips may replace the wires forming the mesh. The ends of the mesh elements may be individually hung by springs 14 from the mattress frame, or the whole flexible support may be enclosed in an open frame hung in the same manner. Links, cords or wires, or the form of interconnection shown in Specification 177,992, may be used to join the upper ends of the springs 11, and the marginal springs may be connected to the mattress frame by coiled springs.
