Abstract

A continental quilt, which contains a greater amount of filling 3 in one half compared to the other, separated by vertical stitching 1. The quilt may be whole, or in two separate halves joined by either a zip or press-studs.

Description

Continental Quilt This invention relates to a continental quilt, or duvet, which is of a different thickness on each side.
Continental quilts have been around for many years, although different weights can be bought to cater for seasonal temperatures, each quilt is of a uniform thickness and weight across the width and length. The problem occurs when one partner is comfortable under a particular weight of quilt, but the other partner is hotter or colder, and has to sleep under the same quilt.
An object of this invention is to enable both halves of the relationship to be under a different weight of quilt simultaneously, but suited to their individual seasonal requirements, in order to be comfortable and get a good night's sleep.
Accordingly, this invention consists of a quilt sown into sections horizontally and vertically, with one half of the quilt containing more filling than the other.
Additionally, an alternative is that the two halves of the quilt are of differing weights, and are separate pieces, but joined together by a zip fastener or press-studs, to enable a couple to mix and match different weights of quilt and tailor it to their particular requirements.
The quilt may be stuffed with either a natural feather or synthetic filling, with the cover made from either natural or synthetic fibres, or a combination of both.
The quilt may be manufactured in a range of sizes, such as'double','queen size', or'king size' A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows an aerial view of the quilt.
Figure 2 shows a cross section of the quilt, viewed from the bottom end.
Figure 3 shows a quilt made from two separate halves joined together with a zip.
Figure 4 shows a quilt made from two separate halves joined together with press-studs.
As shown in Figures 1,3 and 4, the quilt is sown vertically 1, and horizontally 2, into sections.
As shown in figure 2, the quilt has sections on one side containing more filling 3, than the other, separated by vertical stitching 1.
As shown in figure 3, the quilt can also be composed of two separate halves, joined by a zip 4, or by press-studs 5 as shown in Figure 4.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. This invention consists of a quilt with one half containing more filling than the other.
  2. 2. A quilt as claimed in Claim 1 where the quilt is one-piece containing a differing weight of filling in each half.
  3. 3. A quilt as claimed in Claim 1 where the quilt consists of two differently weighted halves linked together with a zip fastener or press-studs.
  4. 4. A quilt as claimed in any preceding claim including eiderdowns, continental quilts or duvets, where the quilt is sown horizontally and vertically in sections to prevent movement of the contents within a section.
  5. 5. A quilt as claimed in any preceding claim, which is made from natural or synthetic fibres for the cover, and natural or synthetic materials for the filling, or any combination of these materials.
  6. 6. A quilt as claimed in any preceding claim, which is manufactured in a range of sizes, such as 'double','queen size', or'king size'
  7. 7. A quilt substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
