Abstract
A bed covering having at least two different areas offering differing heat insulation properties, for instance, by having different weights per unit area. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Bed covering
This invention relates to a bed covering.
According to the present invention there is provided a bed covering having at least two zones offering different heat insulation.
With this invention, two persons sleeping in the same bed can have respective different amounts of heat insulation, or they can both have different amount of heat insulation in respect of different portions of the body, such as feet and shoulders, or a person sleeping alone can have different amounts of heat insulation in respect of different parts of the body.
The difference in heat insulation is normally brought about by differences in weight per unit area between the two areas.
The single Figure of the accompanying diagrammatical drawings shows a covering 1, having two areas, 2 and 3, which have a greater and a lesser weight per unit area respectively, for instance, the area 2 has an insulating power greater than that of the area 3.
Such a covering can be practically embodied in various ways. For example, the covering can be woven with yarns having two different counts, or a single type of yarn can be used but with a different number of picks per length unit and with the adoption of two different kinds of weave. In this way, a seamless covering is obtained, which appears, when spread on the bed, as a homogeneous body, without thickness unevenesses or streaks which are indicative of the different thickness of the two areas and thus of the two different weights. On average, the two weights could differ, for example in a ratio corresponding to 1 50 grams per sq. metre for the lightweight area and 450 grams/sq. metre for the heavier one.Obviously, the covering according to the present invention can be embodied by uniting together, for example by sewing, two articles having different weights per unit area and formed separately, the articles being, of course, either woven or non-woven articles.
In additon, the covering according to present invention can also be of the quilted type, that is consisting of two pieces of cloth with a soft pad between, such of wad or wool, held together by lines of stitching running according to a regular pattern from one side to the other of the covering.
In a covering of this latter kind, the difference of weight will be obtained by properly selecting the quantity of the padding stuff in the two areas.
The covering according to this invention can be made in all the sizes which are normally used for a single bed, for a large single bed and for double beds.
The covering can be manufactured with pure wool yarns, marked IWS, or with mixtures of wool and polyester fibers, or with wool and acrylicfibers.
The finish can be of the fluffy pile fabric type, or of the stabilized trimmed pile fabric type, and the edges may have a border tape of wool satin or velvet, or various kinds of trimmings according to the design or the colour of the bedcover, the latter being produced in even colour or in any patterned design such as tartan type, ruled or Jacquard.
The diagrammatical Figure of the accompanying drawing suggests the covering as used with its axis b-b coinciding with the longitudinal axis of a double bed, the two occupants of which wish to be covered with different heat insulation.
The covering used, conversely, with its axis a-a coinciding with the longitudinal bed axis will provide the sleeper(s) with greater insulation in one part of the body (for example the lower part) and lesser insulation in another part (for example the upper part) or vice versa.
1. A bed covering having at least two zones offering different heat insulation.
2. A covering according to claim 1 , wherein the zones have different weights per unit area.
3. A covering according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the two zones are woven together using
yarns of different count.
4. A covering according to claim 1 or 2,
wherein the two zones are woven together with a
single type of yarn but with a number of picks per
length unit which differs from one zone to the
other.
5. A coveringaccordingto claim 1 or 2, wherein the two zones are formed by two separately
formed articles which are subsequently united.
6. A covering according to claim 1 or 2, which
is of the quilted type.
7. A bed covering substantially as hereinbefore
described with reference to and as illustrated in
the accompanying drawings.
