Abstract
An article of bed clothing, especially a duvet, comprises first and second discrete zones (4 & 5), as seen in plan view, which vary in the respective degree of thermal insulation provided by them in the thickness sense of the article. These zones are advantageously arranged to cover respective occupants of a double bed and may be releasably joined together, eg by joining them together at adjacent edges by connecting means such as a zip fastener (6) or by placing them in separate elongate compartments (7; see figure 2) within an overall case or cover (2).
Description
BED CLOTHING
This invention relates to an article of bed clothing.
It is known to provide for a single bed or a double bed, a duvet that is of a uniform thermal insulation, as measured in tog. This has the disadvantage for a double bed, that, if the two occupants of the bed prefer differing sleeping temperatures, then one may have an uncomfortable night's sleep.
According to the present invention, there is provided an article of bed clothing which, as seen in plan view, comprises first and second discrete zones which vary in the respective extents of thermal insulation provided by them in the thickness sense of the article.
Advantageously, the first and second zones are arranged to cover respective occupants of a double bed. Thus, it is possible for the article to consist of two duvets of differing tog and each for covering one person, joined together. Preferably, the first and second zones are releasably joined together, for example at adjacent edges by some connecting means, or by being received in a case. The case may consist of a single compartment (such as a conventional duvet case for a double bed) removably receiving two duvets of differing tog and each for covering one person. Alternatively, the case may be designed with two or more elongate compartments removably receiving respective duvets. Each individual duvet is of a desired tog and is large enough to cover all or a substantial part of a person.
An advantage of the invention is that one or more persons covered by differing zones of an article of bed clothing can have heat retention regimes approximately suited to their wishes.
In order that the invention may be clearly understood and readily carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a double bed with a double bed clothing article consisting of two duvets and a duvet cover, and
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1, but of an alternative embodiment.
In Figure 1 the bed 1 with pillows 3 has a cover 2 in which two duvets 4 and 5 with different tog ratings are releasably connected together, along adjacent edges, via a zip fastener 6. Alternative means of releasable connection such as ties, press studs, or "VELCRO" (Registered Trade
Mark) could be used. The two duvets cover respective occupants of the bed. For ease of understanding, the foot end of the cover 2 is shown open. It will be appreciated that, in practice, it will be releasably closed by some closure means, such as press studs.
The second embodiment, shown in Figure 2, differs from that of Figure 1 chiefly in that the duvet case 7 is divided into two slot-like compartments into which the differing duvets 4 and 5 can be inserted. The case 7 is then inserted in the cover 2.
Claims (8)
