Capillary action lubricators. - An absorbent pad 5 held .against the underside of an axle journal 2 by an arcuate sheet-metal member 1 supported by a spring 6 is formed with marginal wings 4 which are passed through slots in the member 1, the slots being narrower than the thickness of the pad, so that the pad is held firmly on the member 1. The wings 4 depend into the oil in the axle-box and engage the side walls of the box. The spring 6, which is attached to the member 1 by clips, surrounds an elongated slot in the member 1, through which cotton threads 9, sewn to the pad, extend into the oil..
