E. A. BAUMBACH OILER FOR LEADER PINS Filed Sept. 12, 1923 .Patented Feb. 23, 1926.
UNITED STATES v 1,574,355 PATENT 1 orrlcaf EMIL A. BAUMBACH, or crrrcnso, rL rnoIs.
OILER roe LEADER Pins.
Application filed September 12, 1923. Serial No; 662,365.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMIL A. BAUMBAOH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oilers for LeaderPins and I do hereby declare the following to stated which, while simple in construction and cheap to manufacture, will be thoroughly practical and efficient in its operation whereby the is assured. 1
Another object of the present invention is. to provide an oiler, so positioned with respect to the punch holder casting that all projections which might become damaged or which might cause any inconvenience are eliminated.
A still further object of the present in vention is to provide new and novel means whereby the oiler is firmly held in its proper position.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, a preferred embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawing wherein,
Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of a punch press die shoe set equipped with an oiler constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the oiler proper.
Tig. 3 is a sectional view of the same and,
Fig. 4 is a view of the felt oiling washer used in connection with the invention.
As hereinbefore stated, this invention is arranged to be used for oiling the leader pins used in connection with punch press die shoe sets. As shown in the accompanying drawing, these sets include a die shoe 10, the leader pins 11 which are secured to the said die shoe, and the punch holder casting 12, which is arranged to. slide upon the said leader pins.
proper oiling of the leader pins The punch holder casting 12 is provided with the off-set cars 13, and these cars are in turn formed with the counter bored openings 14, within which counter bores are.
arranged to be positioned the oilers proper which are indicated generally at 15.
Each oiler proper comprises a circular container 16 having an open center and having its inner 'face provided with the circumscribing opening 17, which results in the downwardly depending face 18 and the upwardly extending face 19. The inner edge portions of each of these faces 18 and 19 are bent slightly inwardly to form the circumscribing beads 20 and 21 which are arranged to hold the oiling washer '22 in its proper position.
oiling opening 24; which registers with the The rear wall 23 of thefl oil'contaming casing 16 is provided with any opening 25 formed in the casting so that oil may be deposited w1th1n the container.
Steel bushings 26 are positioned between the punch holder casting and the leader pins.
In the proper positioning and operation of the oiler, the oiling washer 22 is first placed within the oil container 16, with the inner edge portion of the said washer projecting through the opening 17 to contact with the leader pin 11. The container is held firmly within the counter bore 14 by means of the friction between the said container and the wall of the said counter bore. Oil is .then placed within the container through the openings 24 and 25, where it is conducted to the leader pin through the medium of the washer.
From the above, it will be clearly seen that there has been provided a device which will accomplish all of the objects and perform all of the functions claimed; and while there has been shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims. I
What is claimed is: j
1. A leader pin oiler including an integral sheet metal oil container arranged in surrounding relation to said pin, said container having a reentrant groove forming an opening in the inner face thereof with inwardly extending retaining beads positioned at 0pposite sides of the opening, and an oiling washer arranged within the container and projecting through the said opening between the beads and contacting with the said leader pin. 7
2. The combination with the punch holder casting of a punch press die shoe set, of means for oiling the leader pins used in connection therewith, said means including an integral sheet metal oil container positioned within the said punch holder casting in surrounding relation to each leader pin and having a reentrant groove, said container being provided with an opening, and means for conducting the oil from the groove to the said pin. 1
3. The combination with the punch holder casting of a punch press the shoe set, of means for oiling the leader pins used in conintegral circular sheet metal container positioned within said punch holder casting in surrounding relation to each leader pin, said container having a reentrant groove and a ciroiunscribing opening in the inner face of said container, said opening being formed with inwardly directed retaining beads positioned at opposite sides of the said opening. and an oiling washer arranged partly within the container and projecting through the opening for conducting the oil to the leader pin.
4. Ina lubricator, the combination with a rod to be lubricated and an element slidablethereon. of an integral sheet metal oil container positioned within the contour of the slidable clement, said container having" with a countersink and having a transverse opening connected therewith, of an integral sheet metal container positioned within the countersink and having a roentrant oil groove and an opening registering with said transverse opening, and means extending from the groo 'e for lubricating the rod. nectlon therewith, said means including an 6. In a lubricator, the combination with a rod to be lubricated and an element slid able thereon the said element'being provided with a depression and a transverse opening communicating with the depression, of an integral sheet metal container positioned within said depression and having a reentrant oil groove and an opening in one wall registering with said transverse openin and a lubricant conducting washer -posi tioned within the groove and projecting therefrom and contacting with" the rod, ,the said container havinga'etalnlng' beads p0- .sitioned at either'side of said opening.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature. 1
