Casing processes; moulds. - In making chill castings from copper alloys of high-melting point the chill is made in sections to provide air vents at the joints. A special vent is preferably provided at the bottom of the mould which is held in an inclined position during casting. For casting a collector ring for an electromotor the chill is in two parts a, b, the ingot is at c and an air vent at h. The part d of the chill is in sections screwed to the part b and the core member f is removable before the casting has cooled by means of a plunger g. As applied to the casting of pulleys or gear blanks sections of the mould are removed at each side by means such as lever mechanism.
