Abstract
359,565. Moulds and cores. METAL CASTINGS, Ltd., Droitwich Road, Worcester, and McCONNEL. F. W., Barbers, Martley, Worcestershire. July 26, 1930, No. 22590. [Class 83 (i).] Metal moulds or cores of such shape that they cannot easily be separated from the casting are first produced with portions mutilated or incomplete to allow said separation and are then completed by casting on separable portions in a metal mould. A core for casting, an aluminium piston 12 comprises a main portion 15 and cast on portions 17 connected thereto by dovetails 20. The portions may be used for several casting operations and are preferably of the same metal as the cast article so that if the article is defective or the portion 17 cannot be removed they may be remelted without separation. A piston ring groove may be formed by means of a ring 27 cast separately or in situ and preferably formed with a cross slot to facilitate breaking away.
