232,337. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., and Kenyon, W. G. Jan. 19, 1924. Blankets and impression surfaces; gripper mechanism.-In a device for clamping the end of a rubber blanket, impression blanket, tympan, &c. to an impression cylinder, comprising a series of single-piece clamps mounted on a shaft and movable angularly thereon, means are provided whereby the axis of the shaft may be moved arcually. The outer ends of the clamps may serve as pads co-acting with the grippers for gripping the sheets to be printed. The end of the blanket 15 is clamped against the edge 19 of the gap 18 in the impression cylinder 5 by a series of clamps 1 mounted on the shaft 2, each clamp having a split boss 6 with lugs 7 provided with a clamping screw 8 for tightening the boss. Between the lugs 7 is interposed a distance piece 9 of such thickness that, when the screw 8 is screwed tight, the boss 6 will turn stiffly on the shaft 2. The latter has eccentric journals 3, 3<a> rotatably supported in bearings 4 within the impression cylinder. A collar 3b formed on the eccentric 3<a> is provided with a scale co-operating with a pointer 13 on the bearing to indicate the angular positions of the shaft 2 appropriate to different thicknesses of blanket on the impression cylinder, and to different thicknesses of material to be gripped between the outer ends of the clamps 1 and' the sheet grippers 20. The shaft 2 is rigidly secured after adjustment by a lock-nut 11.
