Abstract

Blast aspirators, injector. - In apparatus for the supply of air at increased pressure to support combustion in gas producers, and for similar purposes, by means of the inducing action of steam &c., several independent injectors, are employed to deliver in parallel to the same conduit, each having a number of inducing- fluid nozzles extending into the combining-cone of the diffuser and reaching almost to the throat. Provision is also made for preventing eddy and cross-currents where the several deliver cones of the diffusers discharge into the common delivery conduit, and also for a direct supply of inducing-fluid at will to the conduit at this point, in order that the amount of inducing- fluid present in the combined discharge conduit may be varied without the necessity of varying the quantity of induced fluid. The arrangement, which is described as applied to the water seal pan of a gas producer, comprises an inducing- steam supply pipe 12, Fig. 2, communicating with a number of steam boxes 11, one for each of the ejectors in parallel. From each box are supplied a number of nozzles 10 in parallel, reaching nearly to the throat 6 of a diffuser having a combining cone 5 and a delivery cone 7, and beyond the delivery cones and comprising guiding surfaces 9 adapted to promote the union of the several discharges into the common discharge conduit 8 without abrupt expansion resulting in eddy currents. In order to enable more or less steam to be included in the discharge conduit without alteration of the inducing action, there is a separate valve-controlled steam supply pipe 17 to apertures 18 communicating with the discharge. Fig. 5 shows a movable valve plate 15 for regulating the passage of air through ports 13 leading to the air chambers 3 of the injectors, the edges of the apertures being rounded for the prevention of noise.
