Straightening.-The shafts of roll straightening machines are independently adjusted axially according to the profile of the work by providing a movable adjusting member on each of the shafts between the standards of the machine. A sleeve g, which is mounted on the shaft h between the thrust bearings f, is screw threaded to engage an internally screwed worm wheel e. The worm wheel is rotated by a worm d provided with a hand wheel and mounted in a split casing a, which is fitted in between the front and rear standards b<1> and is filled with grease. Shoulders c on the casing prevent axial movement of the worm wheel. The upper rolls are vertically adjustable by screws in the standards.
