Abstract
229,237. Soc. Anon. Metallurgique d'Aubrives Villerupt. Feb. 13, 1924. [Convention date]. Casting-machines; moulds.-In a centrifugal casting-machine of the type in which the mould is. driven through a clutch or like at the mouth of the mould, the driving means, which comprises an electric or other motor, can be easily removed from the mouth of the mould to permit the extraction of the casting. The motor 1 is suspended from a movable carriage 2 and is supplied through a socket 12 and travelling contacts 16 from mains 15. The motor casing carries arms 4 connected by pins 8 to studs 6 secured to the mould frame 7 and the armature shaft 20 carries a cross-head 21 provided with driving projections 22 fitted with rubber rings 24 engaging sockets 27 of the mould. The cone 30 is retained within the end of the mould by pins 32. In order to remove the work on completion of the operation the pins 8 are withdrawn and the motor with its driving accessories can then be pulled away from the mould. In a modification, Fig. 3, the motor and its accessories are hinged on a spindle 40 supported by a bracket 47, the motor being counterbalanced by a weight 44. The cross-head is splined to the motor shaft, and to remove the work from the mould, the crosshead is moved axially to disengage the driving projections and the motor swung into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 3. In a further modification, the counterweight 44 is dispensed with and the swinging movement of the motor is effected by means of pinion and sector gearing operated from a hand-wheel. In another modification, Fig. 9, the motor 1 is secured to the casing 7 of the mould and drives the shaft 20 carrying the cross-head 21 through spur gears 71, sleeve 73, sliding shaft 82 and bevel gearing 84. In this form the driving gear is withdrawn from the mould end by first sliding back the cross-head on its key and rotating it through 90‹. The gear-box 76 can then be slid upwards over its support into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 9, this movement being faciliated by a counterweight 86. In a modification of this form the motor 1 is mounted at the opposite end of the mould from the driving gearing and is connected to the driving sleeve 73 by belt gearing. The motor 1 may be replaced by a compressed-air turbine supplied from a flexible pipe.
