Abstract
229,140. Soetman, G., Vorster, B. C. A., Soer, H., Grond, A. J. K., and Ellas, C. A., (trading as Syndicaat Soetman, C. S.). Feb. 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Weft inserters not carrying bobbins, cops, and the like, looms with.-In looms wherein the weft from a stationary hank or cop is carried in loop form through the shed, the weft thread is locked in the selvedge by the selvedge thread from a vertically-reciprocated secondary or selvedge shuttle 22. After the weft has been inserted as a loop comprising two threads 24, 25, one above the other, the lay advances, the upper thread 24 entering a slot 21 in a stationary vertical sleeve 20 and passing over the top of the selvedge shuttle 22, the lower thread 25 being held back by the sleeve. A pawl 28 on the lay now rotates a ratchet wheel 8 provided with a cam 9 engaging a flat bar 9 pivoted at 12 and connected by a link 13 to a lever 14, 16 the long arm 16 of which moves through a slot 26 in the sleeve 20 and raises the selvedge shuttle 22 between the threads 24, 25. The lay now moves back, the thread 24 leaves the slot 21 and the main shuttle returns to the feed side. The lay next advances to beat up the weft threads, which are now locked by the anchor or selvedge thread from the shuttle 22. The pawl 28 again rotates the ratchet wheel 8 and cam 9, so that a spring 17 can lift the bar 11, and return the parts 13, 14, 16 to the position shown, the selvedge shuttle returning to its initial position by its own weight. The invention is also applicable where the main shuttle inserts the weft as two threads one lying behind the other. Specification 214,607 is referred to.
