Abstract

Reinforced-concrete roofs; arches and domes. - Barrelvaulted reinforced concrete roofs with trusses but no purlins are shaped so that the tangents at the edges are vertical and the cross-section is cambered relatively to the line of thrust c passing through the crown n and springings, so that the thrust in the arch is transmitted tangentially from the crown downwards. The generating curve b may be displaced along a straight director line, as in Fig. 1, or a curved line. Two curved surfaces may penetrate as in Fig. 2, and the arrises at the angles may be suppressed.
