Abstract

227,810. Commanditaire Vennootschap Froger's Electriciteits Maatschappij. Jan. 19, 1924, [Convention date]. E l e c t r o magnetic switches.-In order to control lamps, motors and other electrical apparatus from a distant point, and thereby avoid personal contact with high potentials, a ratchet contactdisc 15 with contacts 16 on its alternate teeth is rotated stepby-step by an electromagnet 2, 3 energized from a local low-tension source by the momentarv closure of a local switch. The ratchet contact disc 15 is mounted friction-tight on a spindle 12 below a base on which the electromagnets are mounted. The spindle has secured to it an armature with wing-shaped projections 13, 14 co-operating with shaped fixed pole-pieces 9, 10. The momentary energization of the electromagnet rotates the ratchet wheel so that the lamp or other main circuit is completed between the contacts 18, 19 and through the ring 17. When the electromagnet is de-energized, the armature returns under the action of the spring 24 or of a weight, the ratchet wheel remaining stationary. The device may be mounted in a casing in the form of a ceiling rose with the main-circuit-carrying contact-disc in a compartment isolated from the remaining mechanism.
