227,683. Br³ggemann, F. April 12, 1924. Drawings to Specification. Dynamos and motors combined for transmitting power.-For ship-propulsion and other purposes, a polyphase generator and a polyphase motor have squirrel-cage armature windings interconnected through a set of polyphase sliprings equal in number to the number of conductor-slots for each pair of poles. For forward running the armatures revolve, the motor being clutched to the driven shaft, and the field magnets are held fast by an electromagnetic brake; for reverse running the armatures are held by a brake and the field magnets revolve. In order to supply auxiliary motors for driving additional shafts, a rotary transformer mounted within the machine casing has a squirrel-cage primary winding branched off the slip-rings and an ordinary polyphase secondary winding.
