Hoods. - In vehicle hoods, to each cranked pivoted column of the hood is hinged a bell-crank lever one arm of which is connected by a rod to a supporting lever rotatable on the column and carrying the rear longitudinal support which is guided in known manner parallel to the upper edge of the vehicle body, while the other arm of the bell-crank lever is connected by a link to the stay-rod of which the head part hinged to the column turns the column on its pivot when the front longitudinal support is raised and simultaneously folds the stay-rod. The parts 20, 21 of the longitudinal supports are carried by the main pillar 18 by means of a bell-crank lever 17 and are connected to the stay-rod 8, 10 bv crossed links 23, 24, link 15, and bell-crank lever 13. The main pillar is carried by a bar 5 pivoted to the vehicle body at 4, and the bell-crank lever 17 is connected to the stay-rod 8, 10 by links 7, 16 and a cranked lever 6 pivoted on the main pillar. On raising the front portion 21, the joint 9 of the stay-rod 8, 10 is broken by means of the crossed links 23, 24, link 15, and lever 13, and the stayrod is folded automatically by the tubular spring stay 12. The folding of the stay-rod causes the main pillar 18 to be folded back about its pivot 4 and the longitudinal supports to move in a direction parallel with the body by means of the lever 6 and links 7, 16 acting on the bell-crank levers 17.
