Abstract

Sliding bolts.-Relates to a sliding bolt fastening device more particularly for the rear windscreens of motor vehicles, of the kind in which the bolt comprises two separable parts adapted to be expanded within the socket member and consists in expanding the parts by means of a screw. A spring-pressed sliding bolt 1 slidably mounted in a housing 2, having side-cheeks 4 secured by screws to the windscreen frame 5, is divided longitudinally at 13 into two resilient portions 14, which, when the bolt is engaged in a socket 11, similarly secured to the frame 5, are adapted to be expanded by a screw 17 which passes through a slot 15 in the housing 2 and a tapped hole 16 in the upper portion 14 so as to bear against the lower portion 14. In a modification, the screw 17, Fig. 6, with its bead 18 is arranged horizontally and the housing 2 is not provided with integral side-cheeks but is secured bv screws 21 to the frame 5 before this frame is assembled. The interior walls of the socket 11. Fig. 2, are preferably tapered towards its .entrance, in which case the interior walls of the housing 2 may also be slightly tapered in order to align with those of the socket, or the socket may he provided with a shouldered part behind which the suitably shaped ends of the portions 14 of the bolt are adapted to be expanded. Instead of the bolt being split longitudinally, it may be cut away at one side near its outer end and a loose piece or shoe fitted in the gap so as to be forced outwards by a screw pin, The device is also stated to bo applicable for fastening doors, windows and other articles.
