Abstract

Heating parts: casings; leakage-preventing devices; condensation water, draining.-In a turbine of the type having a diaphragm carrying stator 3, separate from the casing stator and exposed on the exterior as well as the interior to the motive fluid, the stator is supported at one end by a diaphragm or spider 4<a> secured near its inner periphery to a part of the turbine such as the gland or bearing housing 6 which is unaffected by irregular expansion of the turbine casing, and at its outer periphery housed in a grooves 8 in the casing or in some part connected therewith, sufficient radial clearance being provided to permit relative expansion of the diaphragm and casing. The other end of the stator is carried by a spider 19 recessed into the other gland housing with a clearance 20 for axial expansion. A flange 25 on the stator 3 engages with a groove 26 in the casing to take up the thrust and to prevent leakage of steam which is admitted to the outside of the stator bv holes 21 one of which at least is in the lowermost part of the stator to act as a drain. The stator 3 and diaphragm 4<a> are connected by interfitting annular rims 22. 23 with a clearance 24 to permit expansion. Fig. 3 shows a modification wherein the thrust is transferred to the diaphragm 4a by a flange 27 on the stator rim 22 which fits in a groove, on the diaphragm rim 23; in this case a steam-pressed piston ring 29 in a groove 30 on the stator prevents leakage of steam. When the steam inlet, chamber 9 is divided into compartments the diaphragm 4a may be held up against ribs on the end cover by bolts 18 which are sufficiently long to permit radial expansion of the diaphragm. Rotational movement is prevented by lugs on the casing engaging flanges on the stator.
