Abstract

Thin-blade handles with clamping devices.- A surgical or other knife having a separable blade, has the handle formed in two parts having studs and slots or like interengaging means whereby the two parts may be fixed together with the blade between them an abutment for the blade end being formed on one part of the handle and a flange to cover the back of the blade being formed on the other handle part. The assembled knife is shown in Fig. 1, one part of the handle is shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and the other part in Figs. 4 and 5, while the blade is shown in Fig. 8. The part 1 of the handle has a flat portion 12, to engage one side of the blade and also carries two headed studs 4, 5 to engage slots 6, 7 in the other part 2 so as to connect the two parts together. The blade 8 has a slot 23 which is engaged on the stud 4, and its end 25 engages the shoulder 14 on the part 1. The slots 7 and 23 have enlarged openings 20, 24 to permit of the passage of the heads of the studs 4, 5. A flange 18 on the part 2 overhangs and engages the upper edge of the blade and the edge of the part 12, and serves as a rest for the finger of the operator. The part 2 is preferably bent as shown at 21 to provide strong frictional engagement between the parts slid into position.
