Planes, construction and arrangement of.-The top plane 1 of a biplane is of thick high lift section and the bottom plane 2 is of normal section. The outer ends of the top plane 1 are tapered in thickness for about one fifth of the span. The thickness of the upper plane is also reduced towards the centre in the region of the propeller slip-stream. The centre portion and the tapered tips are given a slightly reduced incidence. In a modification, the thickness is not reduced at the centre. Steering, balancing, and regulating altitude.- Ailerons 6 are provided, the chords of which increase towards the wing tips.
