Aeroplanes; planes, construction of; steering and balancing.-An aeroplane or seaplane has main planes 1 on the upper surface of which thinner planes 2 are normally nested, the planes 2 being capable of being raised into the position shown in dotted lines by swinging about parallel hinged struts 12. Cords 6, 7 passing respectively through a central member 4 and the planes 1. to a servomotor enable the planes 2 to be moved. The planes 2 are of thin section and of greater camber and incidence than the planes 1. Grooves are formed in the opposed surfaces of the planes 1, 2 to accommodate the hinged struts 12 when the planes are in their nested position. The invention may be applied to biplanes with planes superposed or in tandem, converting them into triplanes or quadruplanes. Italian Specification 242,049 is referred to.
