Abstract
For the manufacture of lustrous threads of 2.5-6 deniers from viscose solutions of the normal degree of maturity, the precipitating-bath used contains 110-160 grams of sulphuric acid per litre and a quantity of salt, such as glaubers salt, such that the specific gravity of the bath is 1.32-1.42. By the use of this bath the whole range of degrees of fineness above specified can be made with the one composition of the bath, it being sufficient only to vary the rate of feed of viscose solution to the spinning-nozzles. It is preferred to employ a spinning length of 10-15 cms. and nozzles of 0.1 mm. diameter, and to use the bath at a temperature of 47-50 DEG C.; and it is advantageous to use a second bath which contains 5 per cent sulphuric acid and consists of the precipitating-bath diluted. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) includes the use of the bath with viscose solutions in general. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
