Abstract

Charging.-In blast-furnace charging-apparatus, of the kind in which tubs 10 are provided, at the point of coupling to the hoisting mechanism, with a cover, the cover is formed with projecting arms 5 which engage with an inverted truncated conical surface 6 forming a stop for the cover and serving to centre the cover, and consequently the coupling member 3, with respect to the tub. The tubs are brought to the coupling point on trucks 11 having a conical seating 12 for the lower end of the tub so arranged that when the truck is brought to the predetermined point the tub is correctly positioned for coupling. The Figure shows the position after engagement of the member 3 with the head 4 and hoisting a short distance; this initial hoisting movement does not effect engagement of the tub with the cover, but serves to cause the joint 3, 4 to move up within a cylinder carried by the cover, thus preventing accidental disengagement.
