Bases and cases; flexible pull actuation. - A connecting box is arranged so that it may be used in combination with a switch fitting and a lamp fitting in a water-tight manner. The cables are led into the connecting box 2 through glands and a flanged casing 6 containing a pressure operated switch 7 and actuating mechanism is secured between the connecting box and the lamp casing 17 supporting a lamp holder carried by an intermediate member 18 and a glass cover 20 screwed into the casing. The flanges of these casings preferably have lugs so that the parts may be drawn together by screw rivets, &c. The switch is operated by a shaft 12 journaled in a tube soldered into the casing 6 and packed with paraffin wax or a solid fatty substance, the shaft carrying inner and outer arms 13, 14 and being actuated by a cord against a returning spring 16. The switch is carried by an inner bottom 8. Connections are made by contact members 10, 11, 19 which automatically come into contacting engagement when the parts are secured together. The switch opens and closes the lamp circuit on alternate, actuations and may be arranged to control also the circuits of adjacent lamps.
