Abstract

224,173. Brown & Sons (Huddersfield), Ltd., D., and Child, W. H. May 22,1924. Rotary kilns. - In a rotary kiln the hollow feed-trunnion c is provided with an oil-tight bearing e on the inner end, and a driving-gear f on the outer side of the bearing e meshing with a driven pinion, the gear f and pinion being enclosed in an oil-tight casing j with means for supplying lubricant under pressure to the casing j and bearing e. On its inner side, the casing abuts against the bearing e, and suitable oil-catchers k are provided on the inner side of the bearing e, at the junction between the bearing e and the casing j, and on the outer side of the casing j. The shaft g of the driving pinion is provided at each side of the casing with oil-tight bearings i, also provided with oil-catchers. Oil is supplied under pressure to the bearings e. i and casing through pipes e<1>, i<1>, j<1>. Renewable rings l of felt &c. carried in grooves on the outer side of the casing j and on the inner side. of the bearing e bear on the surface of the trunnion c and act as grit excluders, and similar rings may be provided on the bearings h, i.
