Abstract
224,023. Forber, W. Aug. 23, 1923. Bearings.-The surface of a white metal bearing is finished and hardened by means of a tool comprising a recessed member 1 which is mounted on a shank 1<a> having a central pin 3, the member 1 being slotted to receive tapered rollers 12 adjusted by means of a tapered sleeve 4 fitting on the pin 3. The front of the member 1 is closed by a cap 9 secured by screws 15 and slotted at 13 to support the pins 14 of the rollers. The rear pins 19 engage slots in the shank and retaining-rings 17, 18 provided at the front and rear ends respectively of the tool. The sleeve 4 is actuated to adjust the rollers by means of a threaded stud 7 screwed into the cap 9 and secured to the sleeve by a screw 6 a locking nut 16 being also provided. In a modification the rollers may be of non- uniform taper to facilitate insertion of the tool or the rollers may be cylindrical and actuated by cams.
