Turning.-A tool-box for an automatic turret &c. lathe for making articles such as rivets &c. from bar stock comprises a head portion 6 having a radial bracket 12 on which the tools 10, 11, are supported and a shank portion 3 for attachment to the turret &c. A sleeve 2 on the shank is secured thereto at the rear end only by a rivet 4. The head 6 is at some distance from the shank and clearance is provided at 2<xx> between the shank and sleeve in order to give the device flexibility and allow the tools to align themselves with work which is slightly eccentric. When producing work such as headed rivets 8 the roughly turned end of the bar-stock is finished by the radial tools 10, 11 resting on the bracket 12 and by an axial tool 20 secured in a central bore in the head by a screw 21. The tools 10, 11 are spaced by packing pieces 13, 13<x> which are positioned by pins 15, Fig. 3, thereon engaging a slot 16 in the bracket so that the tools may be adjusted without interfering with each other. A semi-cylindrical bush 5, interchangeable to suit the work being produced, is held in the head by a screw 7 to support the work during turning. The tools are set while the tool box is on a bench by placing a finished work-piece in the bush 5 and adjusting the tools into contact therewith. A slot 23, Fig. 1, provides access to the end of the tool 20 for setting or ejection and the tools 10, 11, are secured by screws 17 in a muff 18 surrounding the bracket 12. The tools 10, 11 may be formed separate as shown or may be in one piece, the packing pieces 13, 13x then being unnecessary. The tools may be adjusted by micrometer devices.
