Ratchet gearing. - The parts c, d of a spanner head are rotatably secured by a bolt j, the part d carrying pawls i mounted on pivots l, and the part c having attached thereto a ring h formed with notches with which the pawls i engage. To adjust the ratchet mechanism for right- or left-handed movement, a ring f carries leaf springs k which bear on the pawls i so that angular movement of the ring forces opposite ends of the pawls into engagement with the notches on the ring h.
