Abstract

336,521. Wilsdorf, H. July 11, 1929, [Convention date]. Keyless mechanism.- A watch of the type in which the winding crown of the keyless mechanism is normally sealed down on to the pendant or case band (e.g. by a screw thread, or bayonet joint) is characterized in that the winding stem 1, operating a pinion 11 for the winding and setting trains, is axially displaceable to at least two positions and when brought into a lower position, Fig. 1, puts the pinion 11 into a neutral position where it does not gear with either train. In this position the crown may be sealed and unsealed without operating the winding or setting mechanism. The pinion 11, having an upper ratchet face and, coacting with a lever 15, is slidable on squared portion 12 of stem 1. 13 is the winding pinion and 14 a wheel of the setting mechanism. A groove 2 in stem 1 receives a pin 3 on a plate 4 pivoted at 5, this plate having a cam 18 coacting with lever 15 and a pin 6 coacting with three notches 7, 8, 9 in a spring member 10. In Fig. 1 the stem 1 is in its lowest position and pinion 11 is in neutral. After the crown is unsealed the stem 1 is raised axially and pinion 11 is clutched to the winding wheel 13. If the stem 1 is now raised further the cam 18 forces the lever 15 downwards against its spring 16, Fig. 3, and the pinion 11 is forced down to engage the wheel 14 for handsetting.
