Abstract
222,805. Danly, R. C. June 28, 1924. Cymbals; drums .-A cymbal is supported on a drum and cymbal beating apparatus in such a way as to be returned by gravity into the path of the cymbal beater after having been turned therefrom by auxiliary pedal means. The drum and cymbal beating apparatus is of known type, having a clip for attachment to the hoop of the drum and comprising beater heads 7, 10 carried on the drum-stick 8 secured to a shaft 5 which is rocked in one direction by a pedal 3 and link 6, being returned by a spring 9. Lateral movement o[ the operator's foot rocks a cranked shaft 19, Figs. 3 and 7, by depressing an arm 20, the shaft 19 being connected by a lever 23 and rod 26 to a pin 18 which projects through slots in a socket 12 and is secured to a stem 16. The stem 16, which carries the cymbal 17 by an offset bracket 17<1>, is thereby turned in the socket 12 to put the cymbal out of action, the cymbal returning by gravity on release of the auxiliary pedal 20. In the modification shown in Fig. 10, the pedal 3 is mounted on two pivots at right angles to one another, lateral rocking of the pedal about pivot 31 operating a lever 33, corresponding to the lever 23, Fig. 7, through a depending lug 32. The socket 12 carrying the cymbal-supporting stem 16 may be secured in different angular positions by a clamping screw 15.
