Specification of Letters Patent. Patented 001;, 29,1912, Application inea April 1o, 1912. serial No. 689,756.
,responding parts throughout' the severalforming a stationary jaw 6 at one en dthereof and from the same rises a hollow tubular standard orpost 7 the same being formed at its upper end with a fork 8 terminating in spaced parallel bearingears 9 between which is swingingly supported the beater rod supporter'of the beater mechanism presently described.
Mounted above the base 5 is a movable `jaw 10 which'is connected tothe post 7 by meansof a pivot lland coperates with the stationary jaw 6 for `clamping engagement, .with the rim or hoop 1l of a drum said jaws being heldin clamping relation to each other by means of a set screwI 12 loosely passing through the vjaw 10 and engaged in the jaw 6 thus securely -holding the said jaws in clamping posit-ion on the hoop of the drum. Mounted in the bearing ears 9 of the l fork is' a spindle or pivot 13 on which is loosely engaged the sleeve 14; of the drum .beating stad holder which is formedwith a crank 15 terminating in'a barrelor sleeve 16 at rightl angles to the said sleeve-514];- andin which is adjustably secured a drulnbeating staff or stick 17 having Vformed'.at-,ltsouteI-.ll
end a resilient beater head 18"desi'giied as-a -striker vfor hit-ting the drinn headfor the beating thereof. Formed on vthe-'barrel or sleeve-16 is an' arm 19 in' which'is loosely connected an inverted V- shaped wire bail 20, the in-turned ends 21 ofwhi'ch looselv enf gage'in extension ear 22 formed on-a foot pedal 23 the same being further provided Wlt-h ear-extensions. 24: engagin'gfa pivot- 25 mounted in a cross head 26connected with the base 5 in a mannerpresently described. The cross-head 26 is formed with a central boss 27 in which is engaged the outer end of a connecting rod 28 the `inner end of which is inserted through a suitable opening in the base 5 into a recess 29 'formed in the under facethereoffand is engaged in' a bracket :30
low upright or post 7 is a coiled retractile proper throw of the shaft 17 on its retract- Spring 3;? thc samel being fixed at one end to a :tud while its opposite end is connected with a link 34 detachably engaging the hook 353- fixed in and projecting' from the sleeve 14, the spring 32 being designed to tension the beater statt" or stick 17 when the same is moved toward the head of the drum and also to retract it when pressure upon the pedal 23 has been released therefrom.
l-ldjustably connected to the beater stai or stick 17 is a clip 36 having a bifurcated end 37 in which is swingingly connected by means of a pivot 38 an arch arm 39 the same carrying at its outer end a tapping ball 40 adapted to strike the tympanum or cymbal for the sounding thereof when the drum is being tapped. Fixed to the clip 36 is a leaf spring 4l which frictionall-y engages the inner pivot end of the arm 39 so that the said arm may be swung in parallel relation to thestaii' or stick 17 when the tympanum or cymbal is not to be sounded. Normally the arm 39 is held in alinement with the clip 36 whereby .the tapping ball 40 will strike the tympanum or cymbal for "the sounding thereotl on the beating of the drum.
The link 34 is formed of two parts and connected with the same is an' adjusted member 42 which is designed to regulate the tension of the spring 32 so as to effect the ing movement. l
From the foregoing description, taken 1n connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be clearly understood, and therefore, a more extended explanation is omitted.
l. A device of the class described comprisms;- a base, a hollow post rising from said base, a, p'ivotcd jaw on the post and cooperative with the said base for clamping engagement with the hoop of a drum, a. fork 145 siormed on said post, a rocking member piv- :oted in said fork,'a beater stick adjustably connected in said member and having a resilient striker head, a foot pedal pivotally connected with said base, connection between the pedal and said member and Iesilient means vfixed in said post and connected with the said member for tensioning the same. p
2A device of the class described comprising a base, a hollow post rising from said base, a pivoted jaw on the post and cooperative with the said base for clamping engagement with the hoop of a drum, a fork formed on said post, a rocking member pivoted in said fork, a beater stick adjustably connected in said member and having a resilient striker head, a foot pedal pivotally connected with said base, connection between the pedal and said member, resilient means fixed in said post and connected with the said member for tensioning the same, a cymbal beater adjustably connected with said stick and adapted to be swung from operative to inoperative position.
l3. A device of theclass described comprising a base, a hollow post rising from said base, a pivoted jaw on the post and cooperative with the said base for clampin engagement with the hoop of a drum, a for formed on said post, a rocki member pivoted in said fork, a beater stick adjustably connected in said member and having a resilient striker head, a foot pedal pivotally connected' with said base, connection between the pedal and said member, resilient means fixed in said post and connected with the said member for tensioning the same, a
cymbal beater adjustably connected with said stick and adapted to be swun from operative to inoperative position, an means for locking the cymbal beater in operative or inoperative position.
4. A device of the Vclass described oomprising a base., a hollow post rising from said base, a pivoted jaw on the post and cooperative with the said base for clamping engagement with the hoop of a drum, a fork formed on said post, a rockiV oted in said fork, a beater stlck adjustably connected in said member and having a resilient striker head, a foot pedal pivotally connected with said' base, connection between .the pedal and said member, 'resilient means fixed in said post and connected with the said member for tensioning the same, a cymbal beater. adjustablyv connected with said stick and adapted to be swung from operative to inoperative position, means for memberv pivlocking the cymbal beater in operative or inoperative position, and means for limiting the swinging movement of the beater in one direction. f
