Abstract

Drums; cymbals.-To produce a staccato note from a drum or cymbal, a vibration damper is operatively connected to the beater so that the beater and damper act alternately. In Fig. 1. the pressure of the foot on the treadle a actuates the beater b in any usual way, and at the same time depresses the arm of a bell-crank lever h, h<1> pivotally and adjustably attached to a bar j. The bar j, which carries the damper k, is guided in the standard f and is withdrawn against the action of the spring l. Or the damper may be connected to a bell-crank on the beater spindle. In another construction, the damper is carried on a blade spring secured to the hoop by a separate clamp, the blade spring being connected to the pedal by a chain or by a rigid connection. In a further modification the damper may be camoperated. The head of the beater may have one surface p of lambswool and the other, p', of felt.
