Drums and tambourines; cymbals and other percussive instruments; instruments with sonorous plates &c.-Drums, tambourines, cymbals, and other percussive instruments have sticks mounted on springs close together so that one or both may be operated with the fingers of one hand, the sticks being normally in contact with the head. The stick c is of stiff wire attached to a wooden or other connecting-piece c<1>, which is mounted on a blade spring d secured by a bracket d<1> to the drum shell a. A sheet-metal handle e is provided, backward motion being limited by the end of the piece c<1> contacting with the top edge f of the bracket d<1>; or an upstanding piece may be attached to this bracket, against which the back of the handle e contacts. According to the Provisional Specification, a single-headed drum has a bar of wood &c. across the open end, so that it can be held in one hand. Specification 24459/01, relating to a musical instrument with vibrating strings or other sounding parts, is referred to.
