Abstract
490,988. Drums. DEANS, C. F., and BUSBY, A. E. Dec. 17, 1937, No. 35005. [Class 88 (ii)] Snare-wires, pads or other tone-modifying devices are moved with respect to the head of a drum by means within the drum operated by a pedal control which is remote from the drum, being connected by a Bowden wire or like mechanism. In the Figure the pedal 37 is connected by the inner Bowden cable 28 to the outer end of an arm 23 on a shaft 21, and depresses a sector 24 pivotally connected at its upper end to the arm 23, and at its lower end to a guided bearer strip 18, which strip projects at each end from the casing 11 and carries the ends of the snares in housings 17. The snares are thus removed from the (lower) snare head, being re-applied by a spring 34. The pedal and Bowden mechanism are adjustable. Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) show means for moving snares or a pad with respect to the under face of the (upper) batter head. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the pedal is mounted remote from the drum-stand, in a box which rests on the floor. The outer end of the spring 34 may be carried by a crank arm, Fig. 7 (not shown), by the angular displacement of which the spring may be thrown out of action so that the snares will remain in their displaced position.
