Abstract

Single stroke movement, effecting.-A pneumatic or hydraulic apparatus for transmitting writing or other motion comprises at one end two or more flexible diaphragms in stationary chambers or two or more flexible walled stationarv boxes 21, 22 arranged at right angles to one another, and adapted to receive motion from a crank or movable member 7. and at the other end a similar unit 23, 24 adapted to impart similar motion to a crank 15, the boxes 21, 23 and 22, 24 being connected respectively by pipe lines 17, 18 charged with liquid or air. In the form shown, the crank pins 7, 15 are connected to the fiexible boxes by links 5, 6, 13, 14, and the crank pin 15 of the driven crank is adjustable towards and away from the axis of the crankshaft 16 by means of a screw 25. In a modified arrangement, the links are replaced by slotted frames fixed to the boxes, the slots being arranged at right angles and the pins for impa,rting or receiving motion passing therethrough. When liquid is employed in the pipe lines and boxes, an air chamber is provided in each pipe line to allow for expansion &c. When air is employed, small leaks 30 are provided in each system so that the mean pressure remains that of the atmosphere.
