Abstract
222,451. Kukel, S. A. Sept. 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Addition to 221,176. Systems of charging and discharging galvanic batteries.-The narrow segments a of a commutator A for use with the converting arrangements described in the parent Specification are all of the same width, and the commutator is used in conjunction with two sets of brushes c<1>, c<2> delivering two different E.M.F.'s composed of straight lines, which are superposed on each other to give an E.M.F. of approximately sinusoidal form. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the two sets of brushes are respectively connected to the windings D, S of a delta-star transformer, a voltage regulator T being employed in the external circuit. In a modification, Fig. 3, the brushes c<2> are connected to the winding S<1> of a second transformer having a star-connected secondary S<2> in series with the winding S. An additionad commutator may be provided for rendering the charge and discharge of the batteries more uniform, as described in the parent Specification, the brushes c<3> of this commutator being connected to a winding s<3>, which may be placed on the main transformer shown in Fig. 1 or on a second transformer as shown in Fig. 9.
